Hugsweierer's view to the east shows him and her the familiar backdrop of the foothills of the Schutterlindenberg. Once there was a colorful picture of hollow lanes, fallow land, small woods and scattered vineyards and farmland. Due to the construction of the airfield, land reorganization was carried out after 1952, creating contiguous cultivated areas. The lords of Hugsweier were able to look down from their Nellenburg castle onto Hugsweier, which belonged to them. This assumption has not been proven, but the district names "Auf der Nellenburg" and "Hintere Nellenburg" speak for themselves.

It could have been the castle of the Hugsweier local nobility, of whom two names have been handed down: Albrecht and Heinrich von Hugswilre. When Walther von Geroldseck and his sons renewed the privileges granted to the town of Lahr in 1279 in 1301, Albrecht von Hugswilre appeared as a witness.

Hugsweier is the headquarters of the Lahr winegrowers' cooperative. In 1978, a new grape collection station was built at the south-eastern entrance to the district. The Hugsweier vineyards are part of the Breisgau wine-growing region, which stretches from Freiburg in the south to Oberschopfheim in the north. It comprises around 1600 hectares of vineyards in the districts of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, Emmendingen and Ortenau. The proportion of white wine vines is just under 55 percent. The main white wine varieties are Müller-Thurgau, Ruländer and Pinot Blanc. The main red wine variety is Pinot Noir.
